Eames Lounge Chair Repair & Restoration
Giving your Eames Lounge Chair a new lease of life!
Even the finest furniture needs a little TLC every now and again, and the iconic Eames Lounge Chair is no exception. Whether it's a failed shock mount, damaged wood veneer or simply the effects of decades of use, we're here to help keep your beloved Eames chair looking great and functioning as it should.
Here at Eames Addict, we're passionate about preserving original Eames furniture. We offer specialist repair and restoration services for authentic Herman Miller and Vitra Eames Lounge Chairs, helping owners across the United States bring their chairs back to their former glory.
From vintage rosewood examples to more recent production models, we're always happy to take a look at a chair in need of some attention.
Eames Lounge Chair Shock Mount Repair
One of the most common problems with an ageing Eames Lounge Chair is shock mount failure.
These rubber mounts are responsible for securing the chair's plywood backrest to its aluminium supports. Over time, the original adhesive can deteriorate, causing the mounts to separate from the wooden shell.
Unfortunately, when this happens, the results can be rather dramatic! A failed shock mount can leave your chair's backrest loose, unstable or completely detached.
The good news is that many of these failures can be repaired.
We offer shock mount replacement and repair services, carefully assessing the condition of the original mounting surfaces before carrying out the necessary work.
If you've noticed a loose backrest, separating shock mount or any unusual movement in your chair, we'd recommend stopping use until the problem has been addressed. A relatively straightforward repair can become considerably more complicated if the surrounding plywood is damaged.
Eames Lounge Chair Wood Shell & Veneer Restoration
The beautiful moulded plywood shells are one of the defining characteristics of the Eames Lounge Chair, and something that makes each example a little special.
Unfortunately, years of use, moving house or the occasional accident can leave their mark.
We offer restoration services for a variety of wood shell and veneer issues, including:
-
Scratches, scuffs and surface damage
-
Chipped or damaged wood veneer
-
Deteriorated finishes
-
Damage surrounding shock mount attachment points
-
Other repairable damage to the moulded plywood shells
Whether your chair is finished in rosewood, walnut, cherry or another original wood finish, our aim is to preserve as much of the original material and character as possible.
Not every damaged shell can be saved, but we're always happy to take a look and discuss the options.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a broken Eames Lounge Chair shock mount be repaired?
Absolutely, in many cases! Shock mount failure is one of the more common problems we encounter with ageing Eames Lounge Chairs. The success of the repair depends on the condition of the plywood and mounting surfaces, but many failures can be addressed without replacing the entire shell.
Do I need to send you the entire chair?
No, and we'd actually prefer you didn't! For our repair services, you'll need to remove the affected wooden panels and send those to us. This makes shipping considerably easier and more economical.
Can I drop my chair off in person?
If you're in Colorado, local drop-off is available by appointment. Contact us beforehand to make arrangements and confirm which components we need.
Do you repair replica Eames Lounge Chairs?
Sorry, fellow furniture enthusiasts, but our restoration services are reserved for authentic Herman Miller and Vitra Eames Lounge Chairs. We don't currently offer repairs for reproductions or replicas.
How much does an Eames Lounge Chair repair cost?
Every Eames Lounge Chair has its own history, and no two restoration jobs are quite the same!
Whether you need a straightforward shock mount replacement or more extensive plywood shell restoration, we'll provide an individual quotation based on the work required.
Simply send us a few photographs of the damage, along with a brief description of the problem, and we'll be happy to discuss your options.
There are no fixed restoration packages — just the repairs your chair actually needs.
Can you repair vintage Eames Lounge Chairs?
