During the design concept of the Eames Lounge Chair, Charles had the ethos of a chair with a “warm, receptive look of a well-used first baseman's mitt.” The result is one of the most comfortable chairs ever created and has been in continuous production since its first release in 1956. The chair has gone through many changes over the year, with different wood shells used and the original design incorporated a spinning ottoman, which was quickly discontinued. Many leather colors have also been phased in and out.
Herman Miller now makes the Eames Lounge Chair in a tall version as well as the regular size and the much coveted Rosewood has been replaced with Santos Palisander, other current wood finishes are Ebony, Walnut and White Ash.
