George Nelson for Herman Miller Marshmallow Sofa - Spinneybeck Leather (multicolor)
What is it?
Firstly it is not an Eames piece which may come as a surprise seen as we're Eames Addicts here, however we love other mid century designs and even more so when they are manufactured by Herman Miller like many of the Eames designs.
It's a Marshmallow sofa! Known as the 'Nelson Marshmallow Sofa' and was launched in 1956. An inventor approached George Nelson and Irving Harper with a planned injection plastic disc design. The disc shaped cushions have a diameter of 12 inches, so the designers mounted 18 of them onto a steel frame and the Marshmallow sofa was born! The design features detachable cushions that are easy to clean and also interchangeable to evenly distribute wear and to change around patterns and colors as you desire.
What's special about this one?
Well just look at it! The Marshmallow sofa by design is special enough and this color combination of white, pale blue and brown is delightful. It's also covered in premium, soft yet durable Spinneybeck leather which was an optional upgrade available through Herman Miller at the time. The sofa bears a 2010 date stamp and comes complete with all the original labels and like the original labels the whole sofa is in excellent condition with no damage or marks of note on any of the cushions. The frame is equally unscathed with no dings or scratches to be found.
